Meta Enters Enterprise AI Market with Launch of 'Muse for Small Business

MENLO PARK, Calif. — Expanding rapidly beyond consumer social media applications, Meta Platforms Inc. announced Tuesday the official launch of Muse for Small Business, a workplace-focused edition of its flagship artificial intelligence assistant. The move signals a concerted effort by the tech giant to leverage its massive SMB client base and compete head-to-head with enterprise AI leaders like OpenAI and Anthropic.

### Seamless Integration Across Enterprise Workflows

Muse for Small Business is built to streamline day-to-day corporate operations, marketing campaigns, and customer service. Unlike standalone chatbots, the new agent integrates directly into popular third-party productivity tools, including:

* Project & Communications: Salesforce’s Slack, Zoom, and Asana

* Content & Document Management: Box and Canva

* Financial Operations: Intuit

In addition to external productivity software, the agent connects natively to Meta’s own advertising ecosystem and professional profiles across Facebook and Instagram. According to Meta, the platform is designed to automate complex workflows when given high-level directives: "Give Muse a goal — like running your business or finding new customers — and it gets it done."

While Meta did not outline distinct enterprise pricing tiers in its launch announcement, the company noted that the service follows the model of the consumer Muse application—offering a free access tier with daily usage caps, backed by paid subscription plans for higher volume and advanced feature sets.

### Wall Street Momentum and Strategic Pivot

The launch comes during a landmark month for Meta on Wall Street. Following the initial rollout of the consumer-facing Muse app on September 8, Meta’s stock surged 25% over September, briefly propelled by consumer enthusiasm that saw Muse top Apple’s App Store charts, surpassing OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Evercore analyst Mark Mahaney projected in a note to investors that the Muse platform could reach 100 million users within six to 12 months.

While digital advertising currently generates the vast majority of Meta’s revenue, Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg has framed business-focused AI as a key frontier for monetization. At last week’s Meta Connect event in Menlo Park, Zuckerberg described the Muse ecosystem as the "centerpiece" of the company’s forward-looking technology strategy.

### Building the Enterprise Infrastructure

Tuesday's announcement builds directly upon Meta's executive restructuring announced just a day earlier. On Monday, Meta confirmed it hired former MongoDB CEO CJ Desai to head a newly formed Enterprise Platform team. Desai will oversee the infrastructure for business agents, specialized software development tools, and custom Muse deployments for corporate clients.

The technical foundation for Muse stems from Meta's aggressive recruitment of top-tier artificial intelligence researchers over the past year. Led by Scale AI founder Alexandr Wang, who joined Meta to steer its core AI development, Wang’s team launched the foundational Muse Spark model family in April, laying the groundwork for both consumer and workplace applications.

### Direct Challenge to OpenAI and Anthropic

Meta’s decision to announce Muse for Small Business on the same day as OpenAI’s Developer Day highlights the intensifying battle for enterprise market share. However, Meta holds a structural advantage in the SMB segment: an estimated 200 million small businesses already maintain an active presence on Facebook and Instagram.

> “Small businesses have been growing on our apps for nearly two decades,” Meta noted in an official statement. “They told us they’re short on hours, not ideas. So we built Muse for Small Business to help get work done with the tools they already use.”

By embedding AI capabilities directly into the ad accounts and communications channels millions of vendors already use daily, Meta aims to transition small businesses into its enterprise software ecosystem, establishing a recurring software revenue stream alongside its core ad marketplace.
